EHR vendor Veradigm, formerly known as Allscripts, started notifying patients Sept. 22 of a 2024 data breach.
The company said it became aware of the December incident in July. A hacker used a credential obtained from a Veradigm customer to access a Veradigm storage account. The breached data may have included names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, medical records, health insurance information and payment details.
“We recently learned that the patient data of some of our corporate customers was accessed by an unauthorized party,” a Veradigm spokesperson told Becker’s. “This incident did not affect Veradigm’s primary network, customer systems actively used by providers, or daily operations. We have begun to notify affected patients and have notified the appropriate authorities. At Veradigm, we take privacy and security seriously and have already taken a number of steps to help prevent any similar incidents from occurring in the future.”
At least 65,000 individuals across California, South Carolina and Texas have been affected.
