Epic revealed several new data-sharing features at an interoperability conference Sept. 25 at its Wisconsin headquarters.

Over 745 billion data exchanges happened in the past year using Epic’s publicly available application programming interfaces APIs, the company said.

Here are seven new Epic interoperability features discussed at the meeting attended by nearly 1,000 experts, according to a Sept. 25 news release:

1. MyChart Central, set to be rolled out nationwide later this year, allows for a single sign-on across patients’ MyChart accounts.

2. Epic now supports the new Bluetooth Generic Health Sensor specification, connecting home devices like blood pressure cuffs to MyChart.

3. The Clarity data model is now available for app developers to license for additional AI, analytics and population health application support.

4. Real-time “blue dot” wayfinding in MyChart, set to be released in November, will help patients find where they need to go.

5. More prior authorization APIs are scheduled to be released in February.

6. Staff duress APIs, coming out in February, will enable location-aware alerts for nurses when their safety is in jeopardy.

7. Epic is also preparing to follow USCDI v5, the federal government’s latest interoperability standards.
