Fort Myers, Fla.-based Lee Health has introduced what it described as Florida’s first artificial intelligence-enabled birth care center, according to a Sept. 23 ABC affiliate Gulf Coast News report.

The health system launched a remote fetal monitoring command hub that uses AI to analyze vital signs of both mothers and babies, including heart rate, blood pressure and temperature. Nurses monitor patients from a central command center and receive AI-generated alerts that allow for earlier clinical intervention.

Jen Campbell, DNP, RN, director of obstetrical services at Lee Health, said the system begins working immediately when a patient checks in and helps clinicians identify issues more quickly. Cherrie Morris, MD, vice president and chief physician executive for women’s services, said the platform provides an additional layer of support for clinicians monitoring fetal tracings across the system’s facilities.

The technology also extends beyond the command center to support expectant mothers across Lee Health’s Gulf Coast hospitals and clinics.
