IT leaders expect 18% workforce reduction in 2 years | Health IT

IT leaders expect automation to replace a good portion of workers in the near future, according to the 2025 Nash Squared/Harvey Nash Digital Leadership Report.

“Digital leaders believe that their hiring needs for existing tech positions will reduce by 18% in the next 2 years,” the report stated. “More broadly, respondents predict that around 18% of the workforce will be automated in the next 5 years.

Here are nine figures specifically related to healthcare organizations, per the IT staffing consultant’s survey of 2,105 digital and technology leaders globally between December 2024 and March 2025:

1. 62% are more likely to hire a candidate with generative AI skills but less software development experience

2. 58% say a skills shortage prevents them from keeping up with the pace of change.

3. 48% are experiencing an AI skills scarcity.

4. 48% have a net-zero target

5. 44% are expecting an IT/tech headcount increase.

6. 35% expect an IT budget increase in the next 12 months.

7. 25% of their tech teams are female

8. 13% are extremely or very well prepared for the demands of AI.

9. 14% of their annual revenue is spent on tech.
