Philadelphia-based Jefferson Health launched a systemwide artificial intelligence strategy aimed at reclaiming more than 10 million hours of clinician time by 2028, according to a Sept. 18 press release.

The initiative is designed to ease the administrative burden on more than 23,000 clinicians, enabling them to spend more time with patients and families. Jefferson Health positioned the strategy as a commitment to augment, rather than replace, human care across its delivery system.

“This is not just a technology strategy,” said Baligh Yehia, MD, president of Jefferson Health. “It’s a bold commitment to reimagine healthcare — where innovation amplifies compassion, and AI helps us deliver safer, smarter and more accessible care for patients.”

The plan includes three core pillars: delivering human-centered experiences at scale, accelerating insight to action, and building trust through transparency. Each pillar is tied to goals such as reducing wait times, improving outcomes, and auditing AI models for bias.

Jefferson is building on its AI Center for Excellence, launched in 2022. Since then, it has implemented ambient listening technology to automate documentation and formed an AI Steering Committee following its combination with Lehigh Valley Health Network in August 2024.

The health system said it has already identified nearly 120 AI solutions across clinical, operational and administrative areas.
