Altamonte Springs, Fla.-based AdventHealth plans to launch a comprehensive virtual hypertension program this summer.
Here are five things to know, according to a May 12 news release:
1. Set to roll out across 370 sites — including emergency departments, urgent care and primary care — the initiative “may be one of the largest-scale care innovations of its kind,” the health system said.
2. Patients will receive an at-home blood pressure monitoring device that uploads findings directly to their EHRs. Abnormal readings will alert the care team and prompt a video visit to be scheduled.
3. “This is the hypertension care of the future,” stated Jeffrey Kuhlman, MD, senior vice president and chief quality and safety officer for AdventHealth. “It brings together consumer-centric tech, AI and the AdventHealth app, paired with our expert clinical teams, to create a connected care experience that makes it easier for people to take control of their health and live their fullest life.”
4. The program received funding support from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, which found that patients receiving virtual hypertension care report more satisfaction and convenience.
5. This is another step in the 50-plus-hospital system’s move toward home-based care, after AdventHealth debuted a hospital-at-home program for acute care patients earlier this year in Florida.
